Vishal R / Backend engineering

Building backend systems that hold up in production.

I build Java services and independent tools, with a focus on reliable data flows, concurrency, and the bugs that only show up in production.

Systems built around real constraints.

A few examples of the problems I’ve worked on, from retail data integrity to long-running public tools.

Personal project · Java 21 · Spring Boot 4

URL Shortener

A REST API for short links, redirects, click tracking, and expiry, built around a read-heavy redirect path.

Engineering note: Redis handles the hot lookup; redirects fall back to MySQL when the cache is unavailable, and click counts use an atomic SQL update.

UnzipRobot & ZipFilesBot

Archive tools that process encrypted and split files through Telegram, serving more than 125,000 lifetime users since November 2020.

Engineering note: A fair-share download semaphore prioritizes people with fewer active downloads; streaming extraction keeps work within resource-constrained environments.

Multi-client workers reduced Telegram floodwaits by about 60%.

Loan Management System

An eight-service loan platform developed collaboratively with a five-person team during Capgemini training.

Engineering note: The platform uses Eureka discovery, a Spring Cloud Gateway with JWT role checks, and OpenFeign for service-to-service calls.

Better Naukri

A browser extension I built to cut spam and irrelevant listings while searching for jobs on Naukri. I’ve used the public version in my own search for two months.

Engineering note: Filters run in the page as results load; blocked companies, target roles, and locations stay in local browser storage, with no analytics or external servers.

Git Metadata & Security Analyser

A private internal tool that analyzes GitHub repositories and produces structured JSON or Markdown reports on repository metadata, dependencies, and security findings.

Engineering note: An asynchronous Python workflow collects Maven, Python, and Node manifests alongside Dependabot and CodeQL findings.

Ranked among WeSynergize’s April Top 3 and rated ‘Exceeding Expectations’. Separately, the tool reduced manual repository-audit cycles by about 70%.
